Apple HomeKit problems (device not responding, unable to find device, etc)

When you add your Tailwind controller to your account our system sends you an email showing how to add your Tailwind device to Apple Home as well as how to perform a HomeKit reset on the controller. Please look for that email as it also has the HomeKit QR code.

If you can't find the email no worries. Just follow the steps below.

NOTE: If you already added your Tailwind garage door opener in Apple Home and you are having issues with it not responding or other problems, but it works when you use the Tailwind app, please delete it from the Apple Home app before proceeding with the following steps.

To Fix Apple HomeKit Issues:

1. You can find the HomeKit setup code in the Tailwind app by tapping the "Devices" tab at the bottom of the screen. Then tap on your device to get to the device settings screen. You'll find the HomeKit code in there.
2. If you're not having success, you can perform a Tailwind controller HomeKit reset. To do this, press and HOLD the reset / Config button on the controller for approximately 5 seconds until the status light starts flashing green rapidly. Then immediately release the button. DO NOT hold the button longer than 8 seconds or it will erase your WiFi network credentials from the controller as well. You don't want to do that.
3. The controller will run through some short sequences, reboot itself and within 1-2 minutes it should go back to a solid green light. At that point it will be ready for discovery in the Apple Home app again.

If it still isn't working for you please see below for further troubleshooting tips:

If you have a mesh network please make sure your Tailwind controller is on the same network as your HomeKit hub device - which is usually an Apple TV. So for example, if you have a guest network, or a separate IOT network, or a separated 2.4 and 5GHz network, the hub and Tailwind need to be on the same network or it may not work with HomeKit.

Turn off (not just restart)  your iPhone (or whatever Apple device you are using the Home app on) as well as all Apple TVs and HomePods you have. Leave them all off for at least 16 minutes. Please restart your WiFi router / network and the Tailwind controller, then power on your Apple TV (or whatever you use as your hub), and only your iPhone - no other Apple products yet. Try to add the Tailwind controller in Apple Home on your iPhone and see if it works. If it does, and you can finally control it, go ahead and start powering on the rest of your Apple products.

If it doesn't allow you to add it and gives an error that it cannot find the device try bringing the Tailwind controller close to your router, especially if you have a distributed WiFi network such as a mesh network or if you're using a WiFi extender to reach the garage. Note - if you are using a WiFi extender and Tailwind is connecting to that you may need to re-teach it the WiFi credentials for your main router, which can easily be done by tapping the "Devices" tab at the bottom of the app, tapping on your device, and then tap "WiFi settings".

Apple does not really give us any tools to troubleshoot HomeKit related issues. The steps mentioned above are based on feedback from customers as well as researching general HomeKit help forums online.
