Alternate Wiring Possible?
Is there any reason to not install the main controller adjacent to the wall switch and run short wires to the wall switch wires instead of wiring directly to the garage door unit? I have a stronger WiFi signal there and it is also close to a wall outlet for power. Seems the signal should be the same whether coming via the existing wall switch wires or direct.
What am I missing?

That's fine. You'll just have to extend the door position sensor wiring to reach the door.

I've just ordered the Tailwind, thanks in advance for this question-answer, that will work best for me. My wall switch is near the garage door (not the man-door), it's a detached garage. Thus the position sensor will also be nearby. This will be much easier than opening the control box wiring cover and running wires near the ceiling.

My installation, the wall switch is next to the garage door, since it's a detached garage I had it installed that way to make the original install easier. I've now connected the Tailwind control wires onto the two terminals inside the existing push button.
Everything is adjacent: sensor, button, Tailwind. I like that the flashing light and beeping will now be at the door itself. Power was available beneath the cabinet I mounted it on. Install was so much easier not having to climb up to the ceiling. Later I'll chop out that long bundle of wire which is now laying in the shelf.
