There is a wide variation in the range depending on which phone a user has, what the 2.4 GHz environment is like, presence of any metal objects, etc. So even though I tell you that the they correspond to -20dBm, -16dBm, and -12dBm it really comes down to the variables mentioned above.
Best bet is to set it to low and then use the sensor diagnostic screen to see what kind of signal you're getting when you place your phone and sensor in their intended locations while driving. If you get a good or fair signal, you should be all set. If you are getting low signal or none at all, you need to bump it up to medium. You should never need high unless you're putting the sensor pretty far from the phone - like more than 6 feet away - which is not realistic in a typical vehicle.
