Matter support?

Looks like Matter is the new standard for smart home integrations. It'll allow off-line support with things like Google Home, etc... 

 

Some companies are planning on retrofitting existing devices to become matter compatible via firmware updates. 

 

Is Tailwind planning on doing this?

  We are considering Matter. However, Tailwind is a small company and the annual fees charged by Matter are extremely high. This makes our current business model of "no monthly or annual fees" completely unsustainable.

  ​Here you can see that Matter charges a minimum of $7,000 USD per year to manufacturers, and that is just for the membership. Product certification is on top of that. https://csa-iot.org/become-member/#Membership

  There is no sustainable way to have products certified with Matter without eventually having some kind of recurring fee associated with those products. Based on this, we would most likely have to charge some kind of small annual fee for the Matter upgrade and the ongoing membership cost we would have to pay to the CSA.

  Would you consider an "unsupported feature" to offer a firmware that implements Matter?

  It is completely open source and has been done by other projects.

  I understand that you would not be able to add the matter logo and it could not be ask official Tailwind offering.

  I don't think Matter is always a good fit, especially at that price. It's basically to provide a standard interface to other components, but there's not that many things a garage door has to talk to, and Tailwind basically has them all covered, via IFTTT, Alexa, and GA.
