I am running two Tailwind devices for my Garage and Front Gate. The Front Gate is only a few meters away from my unify Mesh AP but still only gets a RSSI of -83. It is virtually impossible to move either AP or Tailwind so I wonder if i can improve the reception by soldering an External Antenna to the board of my Gate Tailwind (of course knowing that this would ruin my guarantee) - Does anyone know which connections on the circuit board would allow for this?

  Hi Dominik,

  That would be really tricky to do because it is an inverted F planar antenna on the PCB. Are you putting the Tailwind controller inside a metal enclosure or something? It is strange that you would only get -83 a few meters from an access point. That actually sounds like it might accidentally be connecting to a different AP and not the one nearest to it for some reason.

  It is a plastic enclosure. I also checked the AP and it the the correct one. It could either be: the Gate Radio 433 interference or something in the neighborhood also interfering... a pity with the antenna.

  You said you have 2 Tailwinds right? Have you tried putting the other one at that location to see what it reads? There will be some natural performance variation. Maybe the other one is better?
