iOS 15 bug causes auto-open / close features to fail.
This is an important message for all Tailwind customers using iPhones.
When Apple released iOS 15 they introduced significant new bugs that can cause reliability issues with our auto-open / close features. If you have not updated to iOS 15 you are not affected by these bugs, and we recommend NOT updating to iOS 15 at this time.
If you updated your iPhone to any publicly available version of iOS 15, we ask that you please be patient if your auto-open / close features aren’t working reliably. Apple is aware of these bugs and they are working to fix them.
These bugs don’t just affect Tailwind. Any app that uses indoor location technology, as well as even some basic location-based features will also be affected. Retail store apps, sporting venues, trade shows, and even apps that have triggers when you visit certain locations are affected. These are very significant bugs and there is no way for these types of apps to function reliably until Apple fixes them. Sometimes they are going to work, and sometimes they won’t. In general, if you have apps that rely on getting location updates in the background (when you aren’t actively using those apps) you should not rely on them in any of the currently released versions of iOS 15. Apps that update your location while you are actively using them appear to remain unaffected.
We were about to release an updated version of the Tailwind iPhone app when all of this happened. We made the difficult decision to delay the release of the updated app version because we didn’t want thousands of customers overwhelming our support team to report that the updated app is causing auto-open failures, when in fact it is actually the new iOS 15 bugs that are responsible.
We will be sending updates on this situation as they become available.
