System outage

    Scott,

A number of things could be going on with your certs. Have you ensured that your private key has not been compromised? What about the trust chain? Are all of the intermediate certs still OK? Or are you saying that the certificate is being added to a CRL (certificate revocation list)? Does the common name match any subject alternate names? Certificates can be tricky, I acknowledge. Lots of pieces to the puzzle.

SSL has been deprecating older versions of the standard. Could there be a difference in the versions of SSL (should actually be TLS) between your systems? Are these self-signed certs or are you using a cert authority?

TLS also works on a machine or domain specific basis. You did say you upgraded to different AWS hosts. Did the network host name change (production.tailwind.com become something like production2.tailwindaws.com) and the domains no longer match?

As well, both TLS 1.0 and 1.1 are end-of-life as of April 2020.  1.2 is supported.

Name another consumer electronic product that allows you to watch the creator/owner nerd it out with the users when something goes wrong. My bet is that North Korean hackers think they have taken down our missile silo doors.

Just chiming in to say keep up the good work Scott Riesebosch! Fellow tech pro chiming in to say it happens, and I'll cheerfully use my manual garage door remote til you're recovered. Been so happy with Tailwind, a few days of downtime won't change my mind. Thank you for the detailed updates!

Keep up the work Scott.  I just bought this product, and am waiting for your system to come back online to test its functionality.  Totally understand IT SNAFU.  I'll wait patiently for your updates.  Agree that email updates are helpful so we don't have to keep coming back to this string to get the latest news.  Thank you.

Just wanted to chime in to agree with the last few comments.
Over the years, this has been one of my most reliable devices. And especially since there is no ongoing operational cost.
It's not the end of the world to fall back to the clicker until this is (hopefully) fixed soon.

    Hi Everyone,

Thanks for the overwhelming positive support. We are back up and running and we have a much, much better understanding of things now. It appears the Certificate issue is resolved. There is one process on the MQTT server that seems to flare up occasionally and we are keeping an eye on it, but that was not the cause of the service disruption.

There are a few things still not online such as IFTTT, Alexa is having trouble discovering new devices, Smart Things isn't working, and a couple other things but we are working on all of them.

I also want to give a big thank you to customers that have offered their kind words and one even joined in on the session with our team tonight (Thanks John and Gabe!!)

Local control is being worked on, and so is a high availability server.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions on where to look on the certificate issues. It just goes to show how blessed I am to have customers like you. I brought all your suggestions to the team.

I have to get back to the team now. We are not done fixing things yet.

Genuinely appreciate the efforts on this, Scott / community.  Using the clicker a few times has been a small price for learning about the behind-the-scenes workings to maintain and develop this unique product!

Like the communication here, however as a brand new customer it has not gone so well.    I thought it was my work or the wifi that was the problem for a few hours.

Things are now up and running, but the main draw for me are Alex routines where  I can close the door after x mins of opening and such.  Any update on the alexa discovery issues?

This has been fixed Alex. FYI Tailwind also has a native feature built into it that can close the garage door after x minutes of being left open as well.

Hello All not sure if this has been reported.....
Smartthings opening and closing works but the status of open or close door doesn't change (contact and door status).
