Hi Everyone. We've restored the notification service but the MQTT broker is still being a pain. We are continuing to work on it obviously.

I'd like to take this opportunity to let you know a few more details:

    1) We are absolutely working on adding more system redundancy. We were working on that prior to this outage. I absolutely cannot stand it when we let our customers down like this.

    2) We are internally testing local control. I don't have a timeline on when it will be released, but it's coming. And yes we will certainly be looking for beta testers for it when we reach that stage. Anyone interested please email me at scottr@gotailwind.com

    3) We are about to release app updates for both Android and iOS. Android is mostly to improve battery life issues experienced on some phones under certain conditions. iOS update is to fix auto-open / close issues that appeared after recent iOS updates were released as well as fixing a rare bug where iOS would report the vehicle sensor still in range when it was actually gone - so the app would think you're in your car when you're not.

In response to T Johnson, I'm sorry you're experiencing problems. I would certainly like to help. The status of the door is rock solid if your door sensor is working properly. It could be an alignment issue, magnetic interference of nearby metal, or possibly even a defective sensor. I can help you get that working quickly and easily. As for auto-open / close, I can also help with that as well - but I'll need you to reach out on support@gotailwind.com as those features involve GPS, mobile network, bluetooth, activity recognition, algorithms for detecting leaving / arriving, and they differ greatly depending on whether you're using an iPhone or an Android, and which model of Android. Even with all that, it is extremely reliable but some people do experience reliability issues and we dive in to find out what they are and solve them. I've even had really upset customers tell me it doesn't work - only to find out they didn't have their phone with them in the car. They thought the vehicle sensor was like a garage remote control. Not saying that's the case here obviously, but my point is I never know what the reason may be until we dig in a bit and I am 100% absolutely willing to dig in and fix it for you.

Thanks. Same issue as 3 weeks ago?

Time to move to Azure or Google?

I've pretty much had it with this product. It's down again. Also I can never trust it to actually close the door when leaving - must always do it manually.  The status of the door up or down is still flakey in the app so you never really know if it's up or down. When I return home it only opens the door 1/2 the time, at most. For something that's really a security element of the home, I really need to move to something else as I don't trust this anymore and feel it could be opening the door at anytime for any reason. Very disappointed.

Hey David, Scott is working on a local solution to use as a backup but it is in alpha testing.

I have had my Tailwind for 2 years. It has worked great with very little issues. I still like it and would buy it again. Anything mechanical or electrical can sometimes have an issue. Scott has always been really good about addressing problems and answering questions. 2020 has been a poop year and this problem to me is really minor.

I've had this also for about 2 years now. Love it. I think it's only been down three times. There's always room for improvement. But I haven't found a product that matches this one.

Dave Sullivan Are you looking for testers for your local solution? I'd assume the challenge is still providing a remote access capability while keeping everything non--dependent on an externally hosted service to provide outside-in comms? Shoot, I'd be happy just having local as a back and using VPN to get to it from the outside. Anyway, happy to be a beta once you're out of alpha and I'd bet, given the significant following you have among home-automation hacks, there are many others who will as well (along with those who will help you problem solve, etc.). You have an absolutely awesome product, minus the hiccups with service going down.

Mine seemed to be up and operational just now. No updates made for DST.

Service has been restored. Third party integrations (Alexa, IFTTT, ST, Google) will be back online shortly.

    Hello Scott,

I already worked with you extensively when I first installed this months ago (and you even noted my install was perfect). Your support is wonderful -- the product is not.

I just don't have time to debug a product that's supposed to make my life easier. This one just makes me nervous that the door is going to open when I'm away. And it still just doesn't work as advertised so I'll be trashing it soon and looking for another solution. At least you tried.

    Hi Tom,

I can certainly understand your frustration and how you feel. I would feel the same way if a product was not performing properly for me.

Based on what you've said I suspect you have a defective door sensor. Everything in the system depends on knowing the correct state of the door. The app always shows the correct state of the door if the sensor is working properly. I would be more than happy to ship you one of the new style sensors.

An updated iOS app is in review with Apple and will hopefully go live tomorrow. I strongly suspect you'll see a significant difference in your auto-open / close performance after that update.
