Vehicle sensor question

Can the vehicle sensor be left on all the time or will this drain the battery?  Approximately how long should the battery last if left on?

Btw, the system installed very easily and has been working perfectly from the start.

  I have a sensor in one car that the battery is about 13 months old and has never been turned off.  The unit was still working but the battery was showing 85%. I got a new one which cost around $6 because I didn't want to wait until it quit working or started leaking acid. I like to change batteries in all clocks, flash lights, volt meters, kids toys, remotes, etc abut once a year to avoid any problems.
