This is so it can scan the QR code on the controller during setup. Once you scan the QR code feel free to deny that permission.

Thanks for the response. Other than location, what permissions are needed for auto open/close?

Sorry for the delay. It depends if you're using a Tailwind vehicle sensor or not. If you're using a vehicle sensor and you are on an Android phone it will also need access to files  because there are some files associated with using the vehicle sensor. Location needs to be set to "always", battery optimization needs to be turned off for the Tailwind app, and it also needs to be allowed to use mobile data in the background and while data saver is on. All of this is assuming you're on Android.

Note: The app does not always track location and it does not always consume battery. It only tracks location if you're driving a vehicle that you've set up in the app, and it only tracks that location at high precision (using more battery) just as you're arriving home or leaving home. As you move away, the accuracy / frequency of location updates falls off dramatically because it is not important and helps save battery. Also, the need for allowing background mobile data is obvious. You're not going to be fiddling with your phone as you come home (I hope), so the app needs to be able to connect to our server in the background as you arrive (and you're on the mobile network).
