Physical install control module
I have a chain driven Chamberlain Liftmaster garage door opener. When I initially installed/placed the control module, I put it on the side of the garage door opener with a single strip of double sided tape placed horizontally on the back center of the module. After a couple of days, my garage door opener started making a loud noise. My immediate thought was the the opener was on its last leg and needed replacement (the unit is about 10 years old).
I went through and adjusted chain tension, lubricated the chain sprocket and sprayed oil onto the sprocket hub. I was still getting this loud noise. I took off the control module and walla, noise gone. The control module was vibrating so much that it produced a loud noise, The vibration movement was not visible to the naked eye.
I removed the tape I initially used and put 2 strips on the module on the back top and bottom of the module, again horizontally. Problem resolved.

Hello Bill, are you speaking to the Wifi Receiver Controller? If so, it is very interesting that the small module could cause a racket.
I ended up stringing the wires and dangling the control unit off a Lolly Column so that:
1) It would be relatively closer to the driveway
2) It'd be easy to reboot the controller as is within arm's reach.
