There was an issue with the HomeKit setup process that started last night and lasted part of this morning. This issue has been resolved. If you are experiencing issues setting up a new Tailwind controller in Apple Home, or you did not receive our HomeKit welcome email when you updated your firmware to V9.97, please cycle the power to your Tailwind controller or restart it through the Tailwind app by going to "My Devices" -> Tap the gear icon to the right of your Tailwind device -> Tap "Restart Device". This should fix the issue and generate your HomeKit welcome email.

If you already had your Tailwind controller in Apple Home and you deleted it from Apple Home and want to add it back again, you need to re-do the HomeKit pairing. This is explained at the bottom of the HomeKit welcome email, but basically you press and hold the reset button on the Tailwind controller until the status light flashes green quickly. Then let go of the reset button. If you hold it down too long you'll wipe out the wifi credentials and you'll have to re-configure those again.

    My apologies to everyone affected.

Please try restarting your router, iPhone, and Apple TV.

You can also reset the HomeKit pairing as instructed in the email our system sent you when you updated to firmware V9.97, which is:

To reset the HomeKit pairing for Tailwind you will need firmware V9.97 or higher, and if you have previously added Tailwind in Apple Home you should delete it from Apple Home before performing the reset steps below:

Press and hold the reset button until the status light starts to flash green rapidly. Then immediately let go of the button. DO NOT continue to hold it down or you will wipe out the wifi credentials.

Wait for the controller to restart itself. You'll know when it is finished when the status light goes steady green.

HomeKit has now been reset and you can add it in the Home app. The HomeKit setup QR code can be found in the automated email our system sends when you updated to firmware V9.97, or you can find the code by tapping the gear icon next to your device to get to the "device settings" screen.

Hi, that advice worked great, but at this point, I can’t seem to get my QR code to scan and am not sure what code to enter to connect my device to Apple HomeKit. Any recommendations?

    Hi Matthew,

The device QR code is usually in a text box on the bottom of the code in a xxx-xx-xxx format. On some devices there maybe a second location that lists it as a backup.

    Hope this helps,

    Hi Matthew,

When you updated to firmware V9.97 our system sent you an email on how to add and also reset the HomeKit integration. Please look for that email as it also has the HomeKit QR code.

If you can't find it no worries. See below:

    1. You can find the HomeKit setup code in the Tailwind app by going to the "My Devices" screen. Then tap the gear icon to the right of your device to get to the device settings screen. You'll find the HomeKit code in there.
    2. If Apple Home is finding your garage device during discovery, skip this step because a reset is not needed - just enter the code from step 1 when prompted in Apple Home. If you want to reset the HomeKit pairing, press and HOLD the reset button on the controller for approximately 5 seconds until the status light starts flashing green rapidly. Then immediately release the reset button. DO NOT hold the reset button longer than 10 seconds or it will erase your WiFi network credentials from the controller as well. You don't want to do that.
    3. The controller will run through some short sequences, reboot itself and within 1-2 minutes it should go back to a solid green light. At that point it will be ready for discovery in the Apple Home app again.

I just installed a new iQ3. After entering WiFi credentials, I chose to update firmware. It updated to 9.97. Both on my Android and iPhone devices, there is nothing under "Setup Code (For Apple Homekit)". The Home app also doesn't discover the accessory. I tried doing the reset described in step 2 above but that didn't help. I also didn't get an email upon upgrading firmware. How long should I wait to expect the email?

Same issue here as Merrick. Nothing under “Setup Code (For Apple HomeKit).” Home app doesn’t discover. Reset did nothing. Never received the email. Please advise.

I found this after creating a new post. Same issue. I've reset, rebooted, etc. Code is blank.

Got the email about the update. HomeKit now sees the accessory and everything works! Thanks!

I also got mine and set it up. One snag and I'll note it here in case anyone else has that issue. All of my IoT devices are on a separate 2.4 GHz network. My phone went back to my 5 GHz network last night, and apparently you have to be on the same network to add it to HomeKit (even though they can talk to each other, they weren't technically the same broadcast domain.)

Having similar issues. My phone iOS 16 connects to iQ3. My wife’s phone can’t. She has iOS 17. Could that be the problem?

    Hi Jeff,

iOS 17 works fine. We continuously test beta versions of iOS before they are publicly released to make sure.

I can't diagnose anything here in a public forum. Please send an email to support@gotailwind.com if she is still having issues connecting. Be sure to provide the email address the controller is registered with (probably yours), and what email address she is using to login to the Tailwind app on her phone.

Not sure if this will help anyone but this is what I experienced. In our home the HomeKit "home" is under my account and my wife's account was added to it. We tried to add the tailwind to the home from her phone but couldn't. I've since moved from an iPhone to Android but still have an iPad. I opened the Home app on my iPad and noticed that it was recommending upgrading to the new Home architecture (https://support.apple.com/en-us/102287). I did so. (We have HomePods at home, too.) Then I used the iPad to add the tailwind. I think I also needed to remove and add my wife to the home again after doing all that. But now the tailwind is there and my wife can control it from her phone. iPad, HomePods, and wife's iPhone are all on iOS 17 (or equivalent).

I have the Tailwind app working. I have the HomeKit QR code. When I try to add a new accessory to my Apple Homekit, no device shows up as available to add. So I manually type in my HomeKit code, but nothing happens and it times out. I reset my IQ3 unit that's on the garage door opener. Removed the IQ3 from the Tailwind app and re-added it. I also make sure my IOT network only broadcasts on 2.4 and my iPhone is also connected to the same IOT network.

I am scratching my head as to where I am going wrong or why I am unable to add my IQ3 to Homekit. I welcome any suggestions.
