How to use CarPlay

Hi Edison,
Once you update to firmware V9.97 (you may need to apply a couple of sequential updates), our system will automatically send you instructions for adding it to HomeKit.
Once you add it in the Apple Home app you can set up an automation to open the door as you arrive.
Apple’s implementation of garage door devices in CarPlay is via a tile that pops up as you’re near home and driving.
There is no way to permanently have a garage door icon or garage door app in CarPlay, but you can definitely have the tile pop up at the time you would need it.

HomeKit does not automatically open upon arrival. You have to tap on the tile in CarPlay to open the door.
Tailwind does have its own auto-open on arrival feature. By default that feature is off until you add a vehicle in the Tailwind app and then configure that feature for that vehicle.

Sorry, I am not following. I do *not* want HomeKit, Tailwind or anything else automatically opening or closing my garage door for any reason.
I am looking for instructions so that, as I arrive home, an icon/tile appears on CarPlay which allows me to open the garage door *if* I wish. Played with automations in HK but did not see an option to do that. Please advise. Thanks -
Hi Edison,
If you're still having issues please contact support@gotailwind.com as you can easily send screenshots and more that way.

For those who might be experiencing the same issues, I would tweak your instructions as follows:
Once you update to firmware V9.97 (you may need to apply a couple of sequential updates), our system will automatically send you instructions for adding it to HomeKit.Once you add it in the Apple Home app you can set up an automation to open the door as you arrive. NOTE: at least in my experience, this does *not* actually open the door but triggers the presence of a tile on CarPlay that allows you to open the door if you wish. (More on that below).
Apple’s implementation of garage door devices in CarPlay is via a tile that pops up as you’re near home and driving. NOTE: the tile is *not* added to the screen(s) where you access your apps, such as iTunes, Maps, Amazon etc. It is actually widget sized (ie about twice the size of a regular tile) and, as you approach your home, appears on what I think is called the CarPlay Dashboard. You reach the dashboard by swiping right on the screen until you get to a split screen (half map, half one or two apps). On my CarPlay, the garage door opener appears in the bottom right hand corner.

Where do I get instructions to add Tailwind to Apple Home? No instructions have automatically been sent to me as described above.

Hi Howard,
If you have confirmed you have firmware V9.97 or above, you can find the HomeKit setup code in the same screen. In the Tailwind app tap the gear icon to the right of your Tailwind device. The HomeKit setup code and the current firmware version are shown there. Just use that HomeKit setup code in the Apple Home app during device setup.
