Do your family members want the Tailwind app on their phones? Do you need to grant access to someone like the dog walker, contractor, or house sitter? Tailwind allows you to add as many guest users as you want. During setup Tailwind creates the administrator account. It is from the administrator's account that you can share access to a Tailwind controller with other people.
IMPORTANT: guest users do not have the same permissions as the device owner. This helps you keep control and maintain a secure system. If guest users are all logged into the app under the administrator account, changes can be made by all users. This can result in frustration and users wondering "How did this change? I didn't change it!". It will also cause notifications to display the administrator name, when in fact it was another user that opened the door.
Is there a way to rename the invited guest? Mine shows up as "New Guest" and I would much rather have it be their actual name.
I agree. Actual names would be much more usable from the standpoint of knowing when specific people come home. Can you say curfew????
Sorry guys. I didn't see your comments until just now. When you share your Tailwind device with a guest user, they get a default name of guest user unless they already have a Tailwind account profile. If they have an account, it will automatically populate their name for you.
However, if you are inviting a guest user that has never used Tailwind before, they will accept your invitation via a link in an email. Then they can download / log into the Tailwind app. They simple go to "edit profile" and in there they can change the name on their newly created profile to their own name. It just populates "guest user" initially until they fill in their own information. Once they do that, it will flow back to your app as well.
Hey Scott, thanks for the reply. I invited my wife and did the setup on her phone with her actual name. On my phone, I see notifications listed as "New Guest" when she uses the app. Is that supposed to happen?
Is this the same access as add a new user? I don’t have that ability in the menu even though I am logged into the account that I used during the initial Tailwind setup. Trying to add my other half to the opener.
No. If you want to share access to the device simply go to the “Share Device” screen (bottom right corner menu). You can add guest users there.
So do guest users use my email and password? On my wife's phone, I clicked invited user , then get the email /password login screen. Is it my details or does she add her own?
In your phone (assuming you’re the device owner) you go to “share device”. Share it with her email address. She will receive an invitation email with instructions and a link to click on.
Then she tap “invited user” and will log in using HER email address and the system generated password (see the invitation email for this).
Every user should log in using their own email address and password. Sharing credentials can cause confusion because the system will say you opened the door but she actually opened it. Also, if she has admin access and changes a setting (intentionally or accidentally), you might think the system is malfunctioning when it is simply doing what it is set to do :)
How can I share with my wife when she and I share a home email address? Using work email is not an option.
You can both log in using the same email address and password if you want. It will just show the same name for the notifications. Alternatively one of you can set up a separate email account using something like gmail or hotmail if you wish. There's certainly nothing stopping you from using the same email. You just won't be able to distinguish which of you opened / closed the door in the notifications and history.
