How can I tell if Tailwind will work with my garage door or gate opener?

Tailwind has been designed to work with virtually all garage door and gate openers old and new. If your door opener has a button mounted on your garage wall, and you have a safety mechanism that detects obstruction (typically this is an invisible beam of light across the door), it should work.

NOTE: If your garage door opener is a Chamberlain, Liftmaster, Craftsman, Raynor, or Marlin brand and has a round yellow learn button, or you have a Genie or Overhead Door opener that has a WIRED wall control with black buttons and a grey body and the style looks EXACTLY like the one in the picture below, please pay careful attention to the questions we ask during checkout.

Please also note that answering "YES" to both questions during checkout will only cause your order to be delayed because we will then need to contact you to clarify what you ACTUALLY have. Your best course of action is to answer the questions accurately during checkout. That will result in you receiving the correct hardware and instructions for your specific opener.

Additionally, please use our compatibility checker to look up your model of automatic opener as there are some models that may require some special wiring. If your model is not listed please submit a request and our support team will advise if Tailwind will work for you.

GATE OPENERS

Gate openers are generally compatible but there are a few things to note:

1) Tailwind requires wifi and power.
2) The Tailwind controller and power supply need fo be shielded from weather. Generally this can be accomplished by putting the controller in the same housing as the gate controller, but Amazon also sells “project boxes” suitable for outdoor that are a good option as well.
3) The universal sensor version is much more suitable for gate installations than the J-track version.
4) Please check your opener for a terminal labeled OSC (open / stop / close), PB (push button), SBC (single button control), CYC (cycle), RADIO, or anything that indicates that it is capable of toggling the gate open / closed from the same terminal. If so, it's compatible without anything special. If your opener does not have any terminals like this and it ONLY has separate inputs for open / close please contact [e-mail] for guidance.
