Thank you Scott, this is one of the things I love about Tailwind. You really care about your customers, thanks for looking out. Much appreciated.

I wish every app developer would notify and keep their customer base informed . It saves everyone so much time wasted on troubleshooting something that’s avoidable! Thanks Scott and I’m a long time user of tailwind !

Ok I have an update. I have written an update and appended to the top of the article.

In short - problem should be resolved within days and you'll be able to update to iOS 16.4.

Tom, believe me, I work in tech support for a mobile app for one of the major automotive companies… were told NOTHING until users start having problems

And if/once a stable beta is released that fixes this, please let us know. I run beta too and for while my auto open has not been working while everything else in Tailwind has been fine. This is probably the reason why.

Yeah, been on 16.4 public beta a while. For me, auto close works while open does not. Let’s hope there’s a fix soon🤞🏼

Thanks guys. Please let me know if you have any issues. If you do discover an issue, please send a bug report through the Tailwind app. It will really help us pinpoint the bug and fix it for you. Hopefully that won't be necessary!

Updated Tailwind app is now live. Contains support for iOS 16.4. We pushed this through quickly. There may be bugs we didn't catch. Will continue testing, but it is now safe to update to iOS 16.4 as long as you make sure you make sure you have V2.40 of the Tailwind app just made available moments ago.

Apparently Apple is also unaware of these changes, because the shortcuts app is not tracking my location in the background either, but wherever there’s an iOS update, shortcuts usually gets broken for a little while.

HI Aaron. I see the bug report. Please thank your spouse for sending it. I have the appropriate developers reviewing it already. She may have discovered a bug. If it's what I think it is, it should not happen again (could be a one time thing), and we will update the app so it doesn't happen again.

I have to give thanks to an amazing support guy we have over at Apple. He was a real champion and got us the information we needed to correct this. We still have lots of work to do this weekend. We will do our best to expedite the app update.

I have been running the beta and it hasn’t been working, but didn’t really make that connection until now. Hopefully they’ll get it fixed quickly. I have the release candidate right now and it’s still broken.

To be safe I would launch the app after the iOS update. We don't know what Apple might change / reset. Bottom line is just simply launch the app once. No need to keep it running. Just one launch will make sure everything is synced back up again. Probably not even necessary but just in case.

Thank you for the update. Btw, is launching the Tailwind app before or after IOS update? Do I still need to update also the firmware of the sensor? Thanks

    Hi Sam,

Yeah Shortcuts is a black hole. If you do a Google Search on "iOS shortcuts not working" or similar search you will find that Shortcuts in general has so many problems it is staggering. It also changes regularly. A shortcut will work perfectly fine, then just suddenly stop working. Sometimes a phone restart fixes it. Sometimes a hard reset fixes it. Sometimes re-installing the app fixes it. Sometimes it fixes itself after a few days.

There isn't anything we can do from our side that I am aware of to remedy the problem because it appears to be widespread and on Apple's side of things. My recommendation would be to give up on Shortcuts if possible, and try to do everything through the Apple Home app instead, leveraging our HomeKit integration. Apple seems to have that working better than Shortcuts.

Can report that auto-open worked this evening with 16.5b1, though auto-close *didn’t* succeed when I left earlier. That could be due to any number of factors, so I may try again tomorrow, otherwise when I definitely go out on Sunday. Thanks again, Scott and the whole team! Top-notch transparency and follow-up as always. 👍🏼

So this article was great and helped with issues I was seeing. The only down side is I had to delete the app all together and reinstall it. This solved all of the issues I was seeing and was working great in all cases for a few days. But....

Somehow it gets back to the state where shortcuts does not work again. It says it fails to communicate with the app. I am sure it is all because of the iOS update to 16.4. If I delete the app and reinstall it everything starts working again. Power cycling the phone does not fix it. running from the app itself works fine, just none of the shortcuts work.

    I have
    app version 2.42

Garage door didn't auto-close this morning when my spouse's car left for work. She sent a bug report from the iOS app.

I don't know if it matters, but she updated the Tailwind app on her iPhone before updating to iOS 16.4 last night. Active HomeKit Hub is Apple TV 4k 3rd generation (2022) 128GB version running tvOS 16.4. Homekit is running the (newer) architecture update (which had been working fine with Tailwind before iOS 16.4).

    Auto-close distance is 250 feet.

    app version c.v 2.40(9)

    H/W Revision No V.1.3

    Model/FW Ver. IQ3/9.97

Location based services: Enabled (set to Always)

Bluetooth access for app is enabled

Cellular Data access for app is enabled

Anecdotally with no data, the other day my door opened automatically for the one and only time since I got 16.4b1, but my wife had arrived home 15 seconds before me and her door opened normally. My TVS has never been associated with her phone, so I’m wondering if somehow mine communicated through hers? Or her TVS through my phone? I just figured mine had started magically working again. But the next day it didn’t, so here we are.
